New Ford C-Max is Revealed

ford cmaxFord has always had good offerings when it comes to its cars and trucks. Its newest option is the C-Max. It’s a popular option, too, because it’s based off of the Focus but yet different enough to attract the eye of people who are looking for a slightly larger vehicle. As a tall sort of wagon it’ll have four doors and seat plenty of people, but it’ll still be manoeuvrable and relatively inexpensive compared to comparable models from other makers. The basic style, drivetrain, and handling capabilities will mirror the Focus, as well, and that will keep it at the front of everything when it comes to the interest that people have in it.

Fortunately for the people who really like the C-Max, there will be plenty of them available along with several options and colours to choose from. That means that people who want to get one as a new car, or want to get a new one to complement the one that they’ve already got, will be able to get just what they’re looking for. They work well around town and handle easily on narrow streets, so they’ll be more likely to remain popular for a long time to come.

Some car companies seem to think that they can come out with great big cars and that people will buy them because there’s a lot of luxury involved, but most people aren’t looking for that. They know that things are crowded where they live and that space is at a premium, so they don’t look for big cars. They look for smaller cars that are still comfortable and that get them from point A to point B efficiently without causing them trouble with parking and other issues. The Ford C-Max is one of the cars that offer them what they want at a price that they can afford – and it looks good, too.

Those are all big pluses when it comes to getting a great car for around town or for taking a weekend holiday to some other area of the country. Ford looks as though it will continue to be strong in the UK market, despite being an American company. People in the UK who want good cars know that it shouldn’t matter where the company comes from. What matters is the car itself and whether the quality, style, and price are what they’re looking for. Since the C-Max gives them all of these things, it’s a great choice.

A Compact Car For Lincoln

Ford’s luxury marque, Lincoln, has finally been seeing some life lately, thanks to the company putting more effort into reviving this once storied brand. Selling off Aston Martin, Jaguar, and Land Rover have helped Lincoln’s cause, as that move has freed Ford designers to work on cars for its Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln brands.

All New Models In The Pipeline

Ford executives have been forthcoming about some products in the pipeline, most noticeably the Ford Fiesta, while hinting that both Mercury and Lincoln would get a few new models. The latter two brands are sold at Lincoln-Mercury dealerships and those dealers are anxious for some fresh product to sell.

Recently, Automotive News shared that the Lincoln may, indeed, get an all-new model, this one being a compact car to compete against the BMW 1 Series and to offset a compact Cadillac model that is also in the works. This is the first time that sort of news has come out, leaving analysts speculating what Ford has in mind. Based on current market conditions we can say that a compact Lincoln would be slotted below the MKS and retail for about $30,000, the price point for cars in this segment.

What A Compact Lincoln Could Look Like

Let’s examine a potential Lincoln compact and what that car could mean for the American luxury brand:

Designing A Sedan – I can’t imagine Ford giving Lincoln anything other than a sedan, but a luxury roadster would be nice. However, with the Lexus SC not selling all that well and with GM planning to cut the Saturn Sky and the Pontiac Solstice, the automaker would be better off on concentrating on something safe – there isn’t a car safer than a four door sedan!

Relying On EcoBoost – No buyer will be satisfied with a four cylinder Lincoln unless it has the power to deliver. With Ford’s EcoBoost engines on the way, this new technology allows smaller engines to work as harder as a bigger one while delivering fuel savings. A 1.8L four cylinder would be small, but with EcoBoost it could have the power of a small V6.

Borrowing From Volvo – As the owner of Volvo, Ford hasn’t tapped its Swedish brand for Lincoln yet. Though I sense that we’ll see nothing but a reworked Ford being sold as a Lincoln, building a new car from the ground up that could underpin both a Volvo model and a Lincoln model makes the most sense to me. Then again, we are talking about Ford here – the king of brand redundancy.

Make It Snappy! — The next Lincoln needs to do something no other Lincoln currently does and that is jack up the brand’s wow appeal. The MKS is starting to shake things up for the brand, but it isn’t enough – can Ford build a compact luxury car that is truly luxurious, good looking, and fun to drive? That remains to be seen!

I’m not confident that Ford will follow through and give Lincoln a compact model nor do I think that this car is a must for the brand. Mercury is in worse shape and it might be the best brand for selling this kind of car. Regardless, we aren’t likely to see this new model before 2011, therefore our speculation will have to do it for now.

The Brand New Ford Fiesta – Music to Everyone’s Ears

There has been an advert recently broadcast on television which depicts a disassembled Ford Focus reassembled as a small orchestra of musical instruments. This particular idea got me thinking about the sort of music other cars might represent. Apparently the Focus produces stately sounding classical music, with very elegant tones and understated beauty. I disagree with this entirely; to me the Ford Focus represents the car for the everyman and as you are no doubt aware, classical music isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. In my humble opinion, the Ford Focus would sound like pop music for the middle aged; U2, Mike & The Mechanics and all those bands that everyone over 35 has on cassette and is waiting to transfer to MP3 (”whatever that means!”). Cars like the BMW Z4 would probably sound like whatever smarmy estate agents listen to…Coldplay, I guess…and would generally leave people feeling a little bit less inclined to get out of bed in the mornings.

As I created a list in my head of all these cars and their respective soundtracks I repeatedly came up against the same conundrum over and over again; what music accurately represents the brand new Ford Fiesta?

The difficulty here is that the new Ford Fiesta is a chameleon amongst the automotive industry. It changes its character completely dependent on who is sat behind the steering wheel. If you put a 17 year old in the driving seat, the Fiesta could easily represent the cutting edge of dance/electronic, with all the stylish bodywork and eye-catching colour options. You could also feasibly stick a bearded 50 year old man in it and all of a sudden it would sound like a Charlie Mingus Jazz opus, all angular, improvised and free. I just couldn’t pin the Fiesta down to one particular target demographic. That’s when it hit me; the engineers and designers who created the new Ford Fiesta must be absolute geniuses.

There are very few cars available that aren’t particularly targeted to one consumer type. BMW’s are designed for executives, the VW Golf GTi is tailored for twenty something men trying to impress women with growling engines and the Fiat 500 is designed for women who have no taste. The Brand New Ford Fiesta has successfully defied market generalisation and will therefore enjoy a considerably larger market share as a result. The question is; how on Earth have Ford managed to achieve this?

In my opinion they either conducted one of the largest market research projects in history, or they have some clever people in their workshops who have a pretty good idea of how to please everyone. The Ford Fiesta combines understated but stylish looks, excellent handling, high performance engines, great safety ratings and unrivalled reliability. Who could ask for more in a car that is available on the road for less than £8,000?

To me, the Brand New Ford Fiesta represents the perfect automotive choice for anyone, regardless of age, sex, or any other attribute you care to combat it with. Ford has done the impossible and has manufactured a car that anyone would look respectable whilst driving.

So what of the Fiesta’s soundtrack? Well if you ask me it would sound like a screaming Jimi Hendrix solo that burst into life every time you turned the key in the ignition. But that’s just my opinion…
